Important Information

  • All short-listed entries will be showcased on the Maxim festival website and archived accordingly.
  • Anyone can enter – whether you were involved in airing/flighting/producing or creating the work - as long as the first transmission / airing / flighting was done in one of the African countries specified on the Maxim Festival Map - countries highlighted in pink for the relevant regional festival.
  • The work must be created specifically for the region specified on the Maxim Festival MAP or a country specified on the maxim Festival MAP. Global campaigns not specifically created for the region may not be submitted.
  • All entries can only be entered into one main category (excluding campaign related categories).
  • Entries need to have written permission from the client / owner of all the rights that subsist in the advertisement/strategy to permit the use and exhibition of the entry. It is the responsibility of the entrant to obtain such consent.
  • Maxim Organisers may at any point request written proof of all required permissions.
  • The Maxim Organisers may refuse Entries, which offend national or religious sentiments or public taste or which in the Maxim Organisers opinion breach any applicable laws, regulations or codes of practise or infringe any third party rights. Any entry which, up to and including the final day of judging, has infringed any of its country of origin's voluntary or regulatory codes of practice, is not eligible. It is the responsibility of the Entrant to inform the Maxim Organisers should their Entry breach the provisions of this paragraph prior to the judging and Awards Ceremony.
  • Maxim Organisers reserves the right to reject or disqualify an entry if it does not comply with the above provisions or any other provision of these terms and conditions. No refunds for disqualified entries.
  • All Entries must be designed for screening, transmission or publication on television, radio, print, cinema, OOH, mobile phones, the internet, or public areas - any brand interaction with consumers - and must have been implemented for the first time between 01 October 2014 and 30 September 2016 for the West and Northern Africa festival. TBC for East and Southern Africa.
  • No work may be entered if it has not yet been implemented.
  • Only updates to the results of the campaign will be allowed after the closing dates – no cancellations will be allowed.

  • All update requests must be sent to entry@maximfestival.com
  • All entries must have been created within the context of a normal paying contract with a client, except entries for charities and public services or in the case of self-promotion. That client must have paid for all, or the majority of, the production costs.
  • All entries must be completed online at www.maximfestival.com. Please note that entries will not be considered complete until all the relevant entry materials have been received, online and the entry has been paid for.
  • Only one party can enter an advertisement / campaign. The first entry will be accepted if there are duplicates. Kindly ensure that all contributing companies are credited on your entry form. No refunds will be given for duplicate entries.
  • Clients may be contacted by the Maxim organizers should there be any questions regarding the advertisement / campaign.
  • Only the Maxim organisers will be allowed to move entries into a more appropriate category if necessary.
  • Entries must be submitted exactly as they were published. No additions/changes can be made specifically for the awards.
  • Maxim Organisers may at any point request further information to establish legitimacy of an entry. (ie Media Plans, etc)
  • Should any entrant / company knowingly contravene any of the rules and regulations of the Maxim Festival, they will be barred for a period of time and all awards will be withdrawn.
  • Any complaints received will be fully investigated and Maxim organizers will request full documentation from all parties involved.
  • The decisions of the Maxim Organisers in all matters relating to the Festival shall be final and binding.

JUDGING

  • The first round voting is done electronically by judges from across the region, to establish the short-listed entries.
  • All short-listed entries will be judged at the festival and only the winners will be screened at the awards ceremony.
  • A panel of international and regional juries will then view, discuss and vote on the ranking of the various short-listed entries per category to establish the Grand prix, First prize, Second prize and Third prize winners at the festival.
  • Only the Grand Prix, First and Second prize winners will receive a trophy.
  • The Third prize winners will receive a certificate.
  • Maxim organisers have the right not to award a category if the quality of work is below standard.
  • Entries in the charities and public services categories are excluded from winning the Grand prix trophy.
  • All work is judged on the below elements:
    • Were the objectives achieved?
    • Relevance to target audience and key insights
    • The concept
    • The Strategy
    • Technology & innovation used
    • Results / Strategic delivery / ROI
  • Any entry that has not completed any/one of the above elements will automatically be excluded.
  • The judges are prevented from voting or entries submitted by their own agency in their country.
  • All voting is anonymous and confidential.
  • The Jury’s decisions on the awards are final and binding.
  • All results will be independently audited.

ENTRY DEADLINES

  • There is a special rate for all entries received before September 2016 in West and Northern Africa and TBC in East and Southern Africa. All materials, documentation and payments must be received prior to the closing dates. Please see details under the fees section.

Some legal stuff about using your material

  • All entries submitted becomes the property of Maxim festival and cannot be returned.
  • For promotional purposes, each entrant hereby grants to the Maxim Organisers a non-exclusive, royalty free right and licence to:
    • Publish and show all material submitted to Maxim Festival with no restraints.
    • Use/rent/sell all material submitted to Maxim Festival in the original or reproduced form for any and all promotional, archive and rating purposes.
  • The entrant warrants that it is entitled to agree to the above points and that it has got all of the necessary permissions, rights and waivers from all relevant parties involved.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to ensure that all credits are correct and that these can also be used as stipulated in the points above.
  • The entrant will need to support and supply all necessary information to the Maxim organizers in the event of any legal action against the Maxim festival due to the use and distribution of material as set out in the points above.
  • The entrant cannot hold the Maxim organizers liable for any claims made against them for using / entering material into the Maxim festival.
  • The entrant indemnifies the Maxim organizers against all liability to any other person, firm or company and all loss arising from a breach by the entrant of any of the Entry Rules or Festival terms and conditions.

REFUNDS

  • There will be no refunds for any entry cancelled after the official closing dates.
  • You can replace a cancelled entry with another entry before the closing dates.
  • Duplicate entries will not be refunded.
  • No refunds for disqualified entries.
